Recently, I met up with a close friend, a client and a relative on separate occasions and they have a common issue, they shared about their disappointments, pain and setbacks at their work places. Often it was caused by people at work rather than their job itself.

I understand and can relate to their situations. I had my disappointments, failures and setbacks too. The truth is, if you find a path with no obstacles, it is most likely a path that doesn’t lead anywhere significant. Man’s adversity could mean God’s opportunity to greater things.

The difference between an obstacle and an opportunity is our attitude towards it. We can turn our stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Most path has a puddle, but puddles can be the tools by which God shapes us for better things.

Here are few humble ways that I’ve learned to manage with my personal disappointments, discouragements and setbacks which have helped me tremendously in finding peace of mind.

Happiness comes by starting and ending your day with prayers and gratitude. 🙂

1) Count Your Blessings – Focus on what you have not on what you lack. My daily ritual before I go to bed, is to write at least 3-5 things of which I am thankful for. I needed to train my mind to look for the good. Happiness is found in appreciating the little things.

2) Be Authentic – It’s about being honest about who you are. Not bending or swaying to try to fit in because you feel pressured or need for approval. Be who you are, stand firm on your values and principles. What others think of you are not as important as what you think of yourself. Know that you are created to be special in your own ways.

3) Build Positive Thoughts – Everyone encounters discouraging and unpleasant situations from time to time. Negative thoughts drain mental and emotional energies. If you fill your mind with thoughts of optimism, faith, abundance, strength and love, your mind will have no room for regrets, hatred, upsets and disappointments.

4) Do what you think is BEST for YOU – Nobody will fully understand you as best as you understand yourself. Some of us may pursue our dreams and encounter noisy oppositions. The biggest mistake that a person can make is to believe that others are responsible for their life’s goals and dreams. We are accountable for our own life. Everyone loves something. We are shaped and motivated by what we love – it’s our passion. If we ignore what we are passionate about, we are ignoring a part of the potential that God has put inside us.

5) Find Your Favourite Getaway – find time for some fun adventure or go to places that makes you happy. I like places that are not too crowded where I can spend time to meditate, rejuvenate and relax. Do something or go somewhere that works well for you. At most times, peace and contentment is found within your heart. You do not need to travel far to find happiness 🙂
