This video brought tears to my eyes, it shows how Derek Redmond an Olympic runner snapped his hamstring during 1992 Barcelona Olympics competition. He began to hobble along the track. He was soon joined on the track by his father, Jim Redmond, who barged past security and on to the track to get to his son.
Jim and Derek completed the lap of the track together, with Derek leaning on his father’s shoulder for support. As they crossed the finish line, the crowd of 65,000 spectators rose to give Derek a standing ovation.
The video is about courage, perseverance and a father’s love.

Last Sunday on 16th June, everyone celebrated Father’s Day.
I found an interesting quote in circulation that says, “A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty.”
Silver and gold my Dad has none. He is the most simple man I have ever met, however, in my eyes he is truly a rich man. Rich in love and compassion. I am thankful to God for blessing me a Dad with an angelic heart.
(The article below was written in 2009 and in that lowest moment of my life, my Dad has been my constant prayer warrior and pillar of strength)

My Dad is a special person. Time for me to reflect on the things he has taught me.
My Dad taught me about simplicity and humility.
He always look for the good in others, never complain or make demanding request on others.
Whenever we want to do something special for him on his birthday, he would say “keep it simple will do, it’s the thought that counts “
My Dad taught me about kindness and compassion.
He is a man of few words, but his actions always equate to love.
My Dad taught me to work hard and always be diligent.
He believes in giving 100% commitment and inculcate the habit in me.
“Always do your best, work hard, be passionate, go the extra mile and you will be duly rewarded.”
(This is his constant reminder.)
My Dad taught me to be a good listener.
“You have two purposes for listening: to connect with people and to learn from them.”
“There is a reason why you have one mouth and two ears.”
My Dad taught me about servant-hood.
“Always look for opportunity to perform small acts of kindness for others, you will never walk the same
path again once you missed the opportunity.” “The small acts that you do, be it good or bad will last a lifetime, learn to choose wisely.”
My Dad taught me about self-discipline.
He reminded me that taking shortcuts never pay off in the long run.
Cutting corners is a sign of impatience and poor self-discipline.
I have learned that no matter what, self-discipline is vital in character building.
My Dad taught me about leadership.
He wanted me to treat everyone with kindness and respect. “Every individual is different, to be an effective leader, you need to take responsibility for conforming your leadership style to what your team need and not expect them to adapt to you.” This is a difficult lesson for me, but I know my Dad is right. He knows that we are created to be unique and we should celebrate God’s creations.
I am grateful for all the things my Dad taught me, always encourage me to do my best and had faith in me when no one else did. He is my silent cheerleader, he may not realise how much he means to me, but he will always be the special someone in my heart.
Dad, I am truly blessed to call you Dad.
To all Fathers who has made a positive difference to your dearest son(s) or daughter(s) life. Stay AWESOME 🙂
Happy Father’s Day !!
