My mom celebrated her birthday on 30th June. We all learn from life experiences, I asked mom what is one of the greatest lesson that had a great impact in her life. As a thoughtful person, she paused for some time before replying, she said : “Don’t worry too much about things, trust in God and know that whatever happens in life, God is in control.”
My mom although not highly educated, she is brilliant to focus on God to guide her in life. As I look back at my life so far, I am eternally grateful to God for HIS abundant blessings and for the important life’s lessons that I have learnt.
1) Trust in God
Whatever religion you are in, trust that God’s Grace is sufficient for you. Focus on HIS goodness, blessings, power, mercy and love.
2) Stay true to your words
Always stay true to your words and follow through to the promises you have made. Learn also to say ‘no’ when you have too much on your plate. One small deed accomplished is better than a thousand unfulfilled promises.
3) Be of Service
I believe we all have a divine purpose in life. It is important to be of service to others. It brings me great joy if I am able to serve and contribute in making a positive difference in someone’s life.
4) Be Thankful
Every morning and night count your blessings. Focus on what you have and not on what you lack. Having the attitude of gratitude makes you happy.
5) Choose your inner circle wisely
There will be people who may have betrayed your trust. Forgive them and move on. God sent them to teach you something, learn from your experience.
Be grateful also for God’s earth angels who demonstrate their care, love and support.
6) Be an inspiration
Everyone needs encouragement from time to time. Always find an opportunity to inspire, encourage and be a good listener. Sometimes, being presence in silence is all they need to be comforted. The most special individuals are those who are able to put others first before themselves and make others feel special.
7) Strive to be a better version of yourself everyday
Everyday there will be something for you to explore, discover and learn.
People of all ages can teach you something if you care to pay attention and listen. Don’t go through life missing on opportunities that matters.
8) Don’t be afraid of failure
I had my 1st wake up call when I was 11 years of age. I was very playful, lazy and have no interest in my studies. Needless to say, I failed miserably in school. People whom I cared and trusted, shunned and rejected me because of my failure.
From my failure, I learned about humility, perseverance, discipline, diligence, trust and resilience. Wow! Tremendous lessons you can learn from setback! Failure can be your BEST teacher.
9) Let it Go
Don’t let people’s drama steals your joy or run your life. People may say or do things to hurt you, learn to let go of your anger and bitterness. Learn to forgive those who have hurt you, but never forget those who have consistently demonstrate love for you.
10) Do not take people for granted
I have learned not to take anybody for granted, always appreciate your loved ones for they won’t be there forever.
11) Know your true friends
I have learned that a friend can tell you how much they care for you but only loving ones will truly be there for you in times of needs.
12) Show kindness
No act of kindness, however small is ever wasted. The kind deeds that you do for others today, will be in their hearts even when you are no longer around. Never missed the opportunity to create ripples of love.
13) You are never alone
The greatest consolation in life is to know that though you may be on your own, you are never alone, God is always near.
14) It’s a matter of perspectives
I have learned that the only difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is how you use them. I once had a teacher who taught me about perspective, he says, two people can look out of the same window, one choose to look up and see the stars, the other choose to look down and see the mud. People have the power to choose what they want to see and believe. Learn to choose wisely.
15) Be open to try new things
I have stayed in my comfort zone for way too long. However, when I began to try new things and sail away from the safe harbour. I learn more about myself and become a better version of myself. Some things don’t work out as planned, there may be losses, but that is okay, you will learn and grow along the way.
16) Love people, not possession
In times of sickness, having someone who cares bring greater comfort than having great amount of material possession. A luxurious mansion, a fancy car or prestigious job title cannot bring you comfort nor encouragement when you are ill. Remember, true comfort comes from the care and encouragement of loved ones.
17) Be authentic
There are times that people judged, ridiculed and misunderstood my actions. I have learned that no matter what others think, what really matters is to stay authentic.
I cannot change (and don’t intent to change) what people think of me, however, I can be firm in my beliefs and not be sway be other’s perceptions or ideals.
18) Take care of your health
Nothing is as important as having good health. I used to enjoy eating whatever I wanted, eventually, it took a toll on my health for years. Now, I learn to take better care of my health by drinking a lot of water, getting regular massage, eat light meals and rest more (for renewal).
19) Take responsibility
Take responsibility of whatever happens in your life. The understanding being that you are responsible but not at fault. Don’t look for excuses and settled, look for reasons that can help you move forward. Victims makes excuses, victors deliver results. Losers focus on what they went through, winners focus on where they are going to.
20) Pursue your dreams
No matter what people say about you, you have to pursue the dreams that is in your heart. You will experience the most exhilarating moments in your life when you follow your dreams. No matter what the outcome may be, you will not regret going after them. If you succeed, it will bring you fulfillment, if you do not succeed, if will bring you experience. Either way, you will learn something of value.
