I have clients who tell me that age is a barrier in finding their passion or getting jobs they love. I do not deny that some organizations may not be readily open in employing people of a certain age group, however, we must never allow age be a barrier to pursue our passion or discover our talents.

I have a few examples of people who despite their age, went on to live their dreams and start a new careers.

Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken began his franchise in his sixties. Ronald Reagan wasn’t elected to his first public office until he was 55 years old. He only became the 40th American President at the age of 70. Peter Roget proved to the world that it is never too late to make incredible inventions, such as the Thesaurus, which he invented at the age of 73. Ray Kroc started McDonalds at the age of 52 in 1954.

My Dad started using technology and learn new languages mainly Spanish and Japanese through YouTube with his iPad and iPod at the age of 76. It proves that we do not have to be bound by the barrier of age to start new hobbies or pursue new passion.

I’m touched when I watched Paddy and Nico on Britain’s Got Talent 2014. Paddy is an inspiring lady who proved to the world that you can be amazing doing what you love at any age. By the way, she is 80 years young 🙂

I just have to share this video (below) and hope it will inspire you to do the things that you are passionate about.

Age is not a barrier. Whether you are 18 or 80, your age is just a number. What matters, is how determine you are to pursue your dreams. Your passion, drive, love and spirit are your compass.

To those who said age is a barrier to their dreams, immediately they should give up because they’ve lost even before they start. Even the young face emotional barriers and doubts in chasing their dreams, yet only the believers continue. It’s not the age, it’s not the people around you, it’s always about how much you want it!
