The Ant Philosophy

It’s a great privilege to learn from Jim Rohn’s “Ant Philosophy”. I reflect on the four amazing attitude that we can adopt and learn from the ants.

Ants never quit.
Try to stop them from somewhere they are headed for, study how they find ways to look for another way to get to their destination. They’ll climb around, they’ll climb under, they’ll climb over. They keep looking for alternatives. Truly fantastic! They never quit looking for a way to get where they want to go.

How can we draw the wisdom from the ant? Simple! Adopt a “NEVER SAYS DIE” attitude.
People may get you down from time to time, but the key to success is never give up. If you cannot swim across the ocean, what you could do is to build a sail to take you to your destination. The point is never lose hope, instead be creative and ask “How can I find a better way to get to where I am supposed to go? “

Ants Think Winter all Summer.
Ants know that summer will not last forever. They will always gather their winter food in the middle of summer.Life is full of surprises, we must learn from the ants and always anticipate the unexpected, always be prepared to handle all kinds of situations. Ants are wise, they know that summer will not last forever.

Likewise, we can have the best of everything today, most spectacular house on the planet, fanciest car on the highway, highest paying job in the company and a spotlessly clean health record. If you neglect to take care of what you have got, will there be any guarantee that you can “have it all” 10, 30 or 50 years down the road? The only thing that is constant is change. Sometimes, things just happen overnight, therefore, it is crucial for us to look beyond and plan ahead.

Ants Think Summer all Winter.
During winter, ants remind themselves, ” This won’t last long – we’ll soon be out of here.” And the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can’t wait to get out.

From time to time, we may hit rock bottom. Sometimes, it seems like challenges happen like an avalanche – overwhelming and unexpected. Always remember, none of these problems are your fault, things happen to all of us. Always remind yourself to stay positive despite your circumstances, do not lose hope or be discourage. We all experience failure, disappointments, rejections and setbacks. Yes it hurts, and that is okay. Events happen, what is important is how we react to the event that will either make us a victim or a victor. If you are faced with adversity, and hit rock bottom, be like the ants, find creative ways to pick yourself up, get on track and keep moving forward.

Ants adopt “do all you can ” attitude.
How much will an ant gather during summer to prepare for the winter? All he possibly can.

We can adopt the same “do all you can” attitude. If you are entrusted with a task at work, give all your best. If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing it well. Give more than what is expected. Why give 50% when you can give 110%? The difference between a victim and a victor is often their mentality. Victims try to get rid of or shrink from their responsibilities (they will whine all day, proclaiming how life is unfair), on the other hand, victors (or winners) give all they got, they see obstacles as opportunities for growth or a learning experience. Winners are solution oriented, they see stumbling blocks as stepping stones to success. And yes, the only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones are how we decide to use them.

Isn’t it FANTASTIC! We can learn Great Philosophy from the tiny humble ant!

Never Give Up!

Always be prepared

Stay Positive and

Do All You Can!
